Programs and Seminars

Upcoming Programs, Seminars and Events

Due to the pandemic, we are unable to meet in person.  We have been holding virtual meetings using Zoom and will continue to explore the possibility of virtual painting sessions or hosting small groups in an outside venue.  Some chapters have scheduled virtual seminars with various artists. You can explore the various virtual seminars being offered on the individual artist’s facebook page or website or by chapter using this link. There are many free projects out there that talented artists are donating to keep folks painting during the pandemic.  Simply check one of the many facebook painting groups.

July 14th Americana Blessings taught by Karen Hansen with permission of the artist Chris Haughey

Your HVTDP Board has designated the July 14, 2018 program as a member appreciation event. Hope you will be able to join in for an interesting day and a fun, seaosnal piece.
“Americana Blessings,” a Chris Haughey design, will be taught by Karen Hansen with permission by the artist.
The surface is a 14″ x 8″ primitive star plaque which will be provided free of charge, prepped and ready to go, to all Chapter members who are participating. All other materials for this project are also included — paints, stamps, clings, stencils, decoupage materials, and even the wire for hanging.
Please let me know no later than July 5 if you plan to attend so I will be sure to have everything needed for the number of painers expected. Non-members are also welcome to attend for a $10. fee that will cover materials and surface.
Bring your usual painting supplies, including paper towels, water bucket, transfer and tracing paper and your brushes. Sometimes the brush you want to use is just the one you left home, so why not bring them all? The artist recommends the following Sure Touch Brushes by JoSonja, but anything equivalent will do:
Script liner 5/0 Angles – 1/4″ and 1/2″
Round 4 Flat Shader – 6, 8 and 10
Oval Wash – 3/4″
I also used a medium stencil brush and a deerfoot. If you don’t have a stencil brush, you can borrow one of mine.
This is a seasonally appropriate piece that we will use to explore some different techniques and products including matte medium vs decoupage, and fluid acrylics vs the standard acrylics. We will be using stamping to create a crackle effect, stencils and stamps as the base for lace, with tips for painting primitive without going too dark and techniques for creating a parchment effect with a deckled edge.
There is no prep. We will trace the pattern in class. Line drawing, instructional information and directions will be distributed on July 14.
Hope to see you there.
